Spotlight on Social Death Awareness: Building Connections and Resilience
The CARE Baseline Mapping Report, released in October 2024, sheds light on an often-overlooked phenomenon: social death—a state where individuals feel disconnected from their roles, communities, and a sense of belonging. The report, based on a survey of 148 respondents from Latvia, Cyprus, and Slovenia, highlights critical gaps in awareness and knowledge about this pressing issue and calls for collective action to promote connection and well-being.
Key Findings:
Awareness Gap: Over 64% of respondents were unfamiliar with the term "social death," indicating a lack of understanding about the causes, symptoms, and impacts of social isolation.

Hope for Prevention: 95% of participants believe social death is preventable, showcasing optimism and a willingness to address the issue.
Shared Responsibility: 70%
identified preventing social death as a community effort rather than a personal burden.
Emphasizing the need for societal action.
Knowledge Gap: Despite optimism, many respondents lacked awareness of practical strategies to combat social death, underscoring the importance of education and outreach.
The Path Forward: CARE’s Mission
To address these challenges,
the CARE project is spearheading an awareness campaign to:
Educate Communities: Disseminate knowledge about social death, including its symptoms, impacts, and causes.
Promote Intervention: Equip educators, employers, and community leaders with tools to identify and reduce risks of social death.
Foster Inclusion: Develop resources and campaigns in multiple languages to make information accessible to all.
Build Resilience: Encourage collaboration between adult educators, learners, employees, and SMEs to create environments that value empathy and connection.
